Century City Sports Festival draws record numbers

Thousands of runners and other athletes turned out for the tenth annual Century City Sports Festival held over the past weekend.

First home in the 10km Express, which is one of four races in the Vitality Run Series for Cape Town, was Duane Fortuin of Kuilsriver Runners Club in a time of 30 minutes 33 seconds. He was followed closely by Vuyolwethu Mbukushe of RCS Gugs in a time of 30:36 and Angelo Booysen of CSBOL in 30:39.

The first woman runner home was Nolene Conrad of KPMG in a time of 34:08 with Kyla Van Graan of Nedbank RC WP in second place with a time of 37:23 and Vuyiseka Nkumenge of NEDWP in third place with a time of 38:14.

Special mention must be made of 13-year- old Sibanye Koyo, a learner at Sinenjongo High School in Joe Slovo Park who came second in the Female Juniors category with a time of 49:47. She was beaten by 19 year old Emma Brassington of Pinelands (45:47).

The festival also included School & Corporate Touch Rugby, Five-a-side & Junior Soccer, a Circuit Cycling Kermesse, the Signature Century City National 10km Stand Up Paddling Challenge, Canoe Polo and Dragon Boat Racing.
